Golden Years Gardening
It is the mission of Golden Years Gardening, Inc. (GYG) to nurture a sense of pride, self esteem and joy in Montana’s senior citizens, and enhance their mental and physical health, by providing them with the opportunity to grow, harvest and consume their own food and herbs, and plant and pick their own flowers. We do this by acquiring, coordinating, and deploying the resources needed to build and maintain sustainable gardening facilities at local community long-term care facilities (nursing homes), assisted living facilities, and retirement homes; and by providing volunteer services to assist the residents of these facilities with gardening activities.
Inside Edge Design
About the course: The community of Helena, Montana has invited Dave Jacke and workshop participants to design a 1.1-acre public park that integrates community gardens with edible forest gardens. Edible forest gardens mimic the structures and functions of forest ecosystems while producing food and other products. While emphasizing low-maintenance perennial crops, we’ll also focus design and plant selection on building fertility, controlling weeds and pests, reducing the need for irrigation, and more. This will be the first Public Park Edible Forest Garden in Montana! Come make history with us!
